Welcome to the Annie Jennings PR Real Stories of Success Podcast Series.
Annie Jennings is the creator of the most powerful radio campaign in the country where you are booked on high impact shows in top markets and she is famous for guaranteed deliverables.
In this podcast, Annie’s Radio Director, Stacy Amaral Kauffman interviews our radio interview talk show campaign client, Brian Fielkow. Brian is author of Driving to Perfection: Achieving Business Excellence by Creating a Vibrant Culture, who was a guest in major markets including Los Angeles, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Seattle, Sacramento, St. Louis, Milwaukee and featured as an expert guest for CBS Radio, Clear Channel Radio, NPR and Wall Street Journal Radio Network.
Why did you reach out to Annie for your radio talk show campaign?
Because of Annie’s reputation in the area of radio. I think a more traditional media like radio has a lot of appeal for reaching an audience like mine. Annie’s reputation was unparalleled and when we talked before I hired the firm, I could just tell from Annie’s presentation that the firm goes the extra mile and takes individual care of the client.
Were your expectations met?
They were exceeded. First of all they were backed up with a guarantee so I felt comfortable that if there was an issue, Annie would take care of it . But I never had to worry about that, not for a second. In fact, the number of interviews we did actually exceeded the agreement. My expectations were greatly exceeded, from the training process to the strategy process to the execution.
What did you feel was the most important tip that Annie’s radio media trainer gave to you?
Actually, when we began our conversation, Jason led with a series of questions and I was not quite sure where he was going, but then midway through our conversation he said “OK stop. These are the questions you will are going to be receiving, this is where I think you answered them really well, this is where I think you need to work on them a little bit.” Before we got into the media training Jason was already doing a mock interview, giving me no time to prepare, no time to think. He did a simulated interview without me being aware he was even doing it and then we were able to take the experience, draw from the positive and make the course corrections as needed. You’ve got to be prepared and know your material inside out. You’ve got to be able to bob and weave a little bit to give the host what they need, and Jason prepared me for that.
How was your overall experience in working with radio show booking team?
Wonderful. The responsiveness, the organization, everything was fantastic. It was really one of the better PR firm experiences that I have had in my career. I cannot say enough about the job the radio team did.
Brian, how are you leveraging your media into business success?
We are using the logos on our website and in our marketing materials and speaker one sheet. Where possible, we have podcasts posted and the links to the radio shows. Everything is on the site. It is a pretty impressive list of media that has features me as the guest expert.

I have considered using your services on 4 different books and never did. I probably should have. As I understand your deal, if you get results, you get paid. In the past, I thought my content was such gold and that that lesser PR firms that charged in the ballpark of $20,000 for the whole thing would get me both big hits and little hits. To be fair, they all got me a lot of little hits. The useful hit was introducing me to the editors of Estate and Trusts, a peer review journal and I had two articles published there.
I have been in the WSJ 33 times (on my own without the help of a PR firm) and tons of other places. I am a CPA/Attorney financial advisor. I am finishing the third edition of Retire Secure! (Wiley 2006 and 2009) . I know everyone tells you their book is the best in its field or class. Mine really is. You can check the extensive testimonials on amazon. (Charles Schwab, Larry King, Jane Bryant Quinn, Roger Ibbotson, about 70 more)
Though national coverage is great, I make money with local coverage because I have a local practice. I have the chops to be a national contributor, on radio, (I have a local radio show) t.v. or in print and that would be fun and maybe profitable.
I have done some, though not a lot, local t.v.
Are we a good fit?
