Grape News For Skin

Resveratrol.

By now most people have heard the “good news” that resveratrol, the compound present in red wine, offers health benefits. According to WebMD.com, “Resveratrol has been linked to prevention of age-related problems such as heart disease and insulin resistance. Researchers believe that resveratrol activates the SIRT1 gene, a biological mechanism that seems to protect the body against the harmful effects of obesity and the diseases of aging.”

One scientist has taken that news and applied it to skin care under the appropriately named Merlot Skin Care. His friends call him Dr. Grapes, others often refer to him as Mr. Merlot. With his signature skin care line, Wayne Beckley, creator of Merlot Skin Care, is gaining a new title as the “Father of Grape Seed Technology.”

Ahead of his time.

More than 10 years ago while watching “60 Minutes,” Wayne Beckley first learned of “the French Paradox” – a report on people in France who consumed diets heavy in saturated fat, but who seemed to suffer virtually no heart disease. The report linked the findings to their drinking red wine.

Intrigued, Beckley chronicled over 70 research studies that indicated that drinking one or two glasses of red wine each day could be beneficial in warding off certain cancers and lowering cholesterol in the body. The reason: the antioxidants found in red grapes. Investigating further, Beckley found studies revealing the grape’s true power, their seeds. Research studies have shown that grape seed antioxidants are 50 times more powerful than Vitamin E and nearly 25 times more powerful than Vitamin C.

A new skin care line is born.

In 2001, Beckley launched Merlot Skin Care, utilizing the power of the grape seed in each unique formulation. Harnessing nature’s most powerful antioxidants, Merlot products work to fight free radicals – molecules caused by smoke, smog, pollution, stress and UV rays – and protect skin against the signs of aging.

From his first experiments in his garage to today, Beckley has built Merlot into a powerful line. “Merlot Skin Care products have been praised for their high quality formulations and tremendous value. But the real secret is in the seed,” says Beckley.

“My Daily Beauty”

The company recently launched its “My Daily Beauty” campaign, aiming to help women build healthy skin care routines. Merlot’s “My Daily Beauty” includes video tutorials in English and Spanish from international beauty training consultant Rebecca Herrera, CEO of Speaking Of Beauty LLC, social media engagement and contests, customer participation and a specially packaged Merlot Skin Care kit.

“It’s always Merlot Skin Care’s goal to help women get the most out of their skin care products,” explains Michele Beckley, vice president of operations for Merlot Skin Care. “We packaged the ‘My Daily Beauty’ kit for everyone looking to develop an easy-to-follow daily routine with anti-aging-focused solutions.”
